Utility Billing (UB) Module Overview

Version 6.x

NOTE: The following are proposed features for the upcoming release of the UB module, and as such are subject to change.

Overview

The Utility Billing (UB) system was designed to handle multiple types of services including water, sewer, refuse, electric, gas and more. The system maintains a single account number for ease of use and customer inquiries. A many-to-many relationship exists so that multiple meters and reading devices can be linked to an account. With this flexible rate structure, it is possible to have multiple services assigned to multiple meters or devices. This system also makes it easy to handle compound meters, ERT’s, water and sewer meters, sprinklers, and so on.

Utility consumption readings can be assisted by the use of hand-held electronic meters. The use of these units can save both time and money by providing an automated method for utility meter reading. Each hand-held unit allows the User to input current readings and add additional information to a particular reading or account. It is also designed to generate an over and under usage warning. When the unit issues a warning, the user is required to re-key the consumption amount and confirm the entry. Each warning is then marked by the system and will flag management of possible errors. After entering meter readings for metered accounts, the system calculates the bills and prints a billing register for verification purposes.

Mailing Index

With the use of the mailing index, it is possible to set up the system to account for all the people that should receive bills and notices. For instance, third party mailings can be set up for convenience for the elderly, multiple owners, banks, and so on, and dates can be entered to maintain alternate addresses for seasonal travelers (i.e. snowbirds).

Utilities and Flat Rate Billing

Billing can be performed monthly, quarterly, or on any desired schedule. The system allows you to divide customers into sections or cycles for billing. These billings can be on different schedules (residential / quarterly, commercial / monthly), and can overlap each other without causing any difficulties. The system maintains complete historical data for all customers, usage, billings, payments and penalties. This data can be stored on-line and is only limited by storage capacity. Service can be turned on at a location before the previous occupant is billed for their final payment, allowing for a new account to be established and a “turn-on” date scheduled even before any transactions with the previous owner are finalized. All of this is carried out in one easy step.
